Blazen Craft; The Making of an Artist

Blazen Craft is intended to bring voice to the least of these so the expression of a natural artistic ability -the purest form of creation-can be ignited to expand beyond what convention would limit us to be.

"As a child growing up in a diverse British home a constant creative spirit heralded me towards an innated craving to CREATE-to create anything from everything.  This process of creation became my muse, if you will".

The Making of an Artist

Though I had not known [it] yet, I was embarking on a journey as an Folk Artist.  The words eluded me then as they do today.  I mean- in this modern day of social media, web based design, and digital imagery, how does one claim to be a folk artist and to boot make a monetary value out of it?

"I can recall over the generations the growth and expression my artistic merit has developed in me as I traversed the plain of my imagination coiled up inside the vision of my minds eye".
-Samantha Cooper-Hardison

Melbourn Nr. Royston Herts.  England

Even the address was quaint all wrapped up in that quintessential British village smattered between a air-force base that my father commuted too and Cambridge.  My formable years were spent drawing, painting with watercolor, and sketching maps.  I created a small theater, wrote a play, and attempted to perform the production.  I designed a treasure hunt and a fair with 8 games that I invited the neighborhood children too attend. But what I remember most was my love for nature.

Colorado Springs, Colorado USA

After High School in Woodland Park Colorado I moved to Colorado Springs where I attended Pikes Peak Community College for a very short period.  I studied commercial art and graphic design.  I pursued raising a family instead of completing my schooling putting aside any thought of an art career.

My children had never known me not to be creating- I painted regularly, created their Halloween costumes, over decorated for every holiday, and dabbled in any community event I could.

From the age of 15 I completed 110  pieces of art. My dog portraits were exhibited in two coffee houses in Colorado Springs in 2016.  I continue to produce art work through art series collections, artist focus programs, and blazon scripture art.

From the Colorado Rockies to the Kentucky Appalachians

The unprecedented change the pandemic brought us, where our lives took on a deliberate turn that made us self-reflect on who we are as individuals from our health to our families to our incomes and our future, Blazen Craft, resonates a sound in me that reverberates into the arts and crafts that I intend to continue to create.

This blog will bring you along the adventure, most likely, the ups and the downs of a folk artists forge into the heart of America as I create a deep path into the Kentucky soil to enrich the economy, the dreams of the American people, and the hopes of a strong future.  I have a never give up spirit, a love for God, and the folk art and artisans I will embark on will be something that I hope will ignite in you a creative spirit.
